On July 21st, 1893, John Wilson was killed by Joseph Leblanc. The motive was reported as robbery.
The trial took place on October 31st, 1893 in the Court of Assizes in Winnipeg with Judge Taylor residing. There was a recommendation of mercy from the jury but Leblanc was sentenced to hang on December 15th, 1893.
By order of the court on December 9th, 1893, Leblanc's sentence was commuted to 15 years imprisonment (or life) at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary.
