On December 1st, 1910, Michael Babij was beaten to death by Nikola Bilowuz and Michael Hrynczyszyn. Bilowuz was a Ruthenian, single, and employed as a labourer. The trial took place March 8th-10th, 1910 in the Court of King's Bench, with Judge Richards residing.

Bilowuz was found guilty with no recommendation of mercy from the Judge. He was sentenced to hang on March 25th, 1911 and then incarcerated in the Stoney Mountain Penitentiary. The execution sentence was commuted to life imprisonment on the day he was to hang.

Hrynczyszyn was also accused but found guilty of manslaughter.
