In 1926, there were a total of eight murder charges laid in Manitoba, two of those murders were committed in 1921 (see 1921 archive for Penny and Czayka). The statistics for the time divided the province into three districts, Dauphin (1), Manitoba Eastern (5) (which included Winnipeg), and Manitoba Northern (2). Of the eight charges, three of the accused were acquited (one from each district), one was "Detained for Lunacy" (Eastern), and the other four were found guilty and sentenced to death. Three of those executions involved homicides in Winnipeg.There were also 9 Manslaughter charges laid in Manitoba in 1926. Those charges occured in the districts as follows: Dauphin (1), Eastern (7), Northern (1). None of those manslaughter charges resulted in a life sentence.
