On September 18th, 1946, during the course of a sexual assault, Michael Angelo Vescio (22) shot and killed the young George Robert Smith (13).

The trial took place November 19th - 25th, 1946 in the Court of King's Bench, with Judge E.K. Williams residing.

With no recommendation of mercy from the Judge, Vescio was found guilty and sentenced to hang on February 18th, 1948.

An Order in Court of November 18th, 1948 upheld the sentence and on November 19, 1948, Vescio was hanged at the Common Gaol in Headingly, Manitoba.
