1971.05.29 | OMAN, Ila (43) | Ila Oman, 43, was a wife and stepmother when she was raped and severely beaten on May 29, 1971. The Dene woman was found outside Churchill, Manitoba and died days later in the hospital. Three youth were charged with murder, but those charges were eventually dropped. "The investigation was concluded and has remained so since," says a written statement from the RCMP. In March 2018, Ila's niece, Bernice Thorassie, drove 18 hours on an ice road so she could share her aunt's story at the MMIWG inquiry hearings in Thompson, Manitoba. https://www.cbc.ca/missingandmurdered/mmiw/profiles/ila-oman |
