On Saturday, September 15th, 2007, at 6:40am, police were called to the 400 block of Manitoba Avenue where a deceased male was discovered at the rear of residence.
As of September 17th, police had yet to identify the man who was shot in the upper body and found in the backyard of the home. He had no identification on him and no distinguishing features, like tattoos.
A Winnipeg Free Press article on Monday, September 17th reports the vicitim as aboriginal in appearance, in his late teens or early twenties with dark hair tied in a long ponytail.
He was wearing a black wool jacket with blue leather sleeves, a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue track-style pants, a red t-shirt and blue and white runners.
The male was later identified as 29-year-old, Patrick (Corey) Chief-Courchene.
Police confirmed the house where his body was found is a known drug house and that officers have been called there in the recent past. Drugs were seized from the home during a Street Crime Unit sweep.
