Statistics Canada Data: Winnipeg = 26 Manitoba = 49 (includes Winnipeg)
For 2005, Statistics Canada reported 49 homicide victims for the province of Manitoba with 26 of those homicides occurring in Winnipeg. In the Winnipeg table below I have identified 25 Cases (1 Unsolved). In the Manitoba table I've identified xx (in progress). Some of the unsolved and disappearance cases may have been resolved but not reported to media. | 2005.07.30 | KOOSTACHIN, Marcia Viola (24) | UNSOLVED - Marcia Viola Koostachin, 24, was born and raised on the Shamattawa First Nation in northern Manitoba. On July 30, 2005, her body was found on the outskirts of the fly-in reserve. Marcia was well known and liked, so to this day, many wonder who could have killed her or why. | 2005.11.26 | CHABOYER, Melissa (35) | UNSOLVED - A single mother to one and a foster parent to several others, Melissa Chaboyer, 35, worked multiple jobs to afford Christmas gifts for her family. On Nov. 26, 2005 Chaboyer was stabbed to death in the taxi she drove, and her body was found on the pavement of a parking lot in Thompson, Manitoba. Chaboyer's homicide is being reviewed by the fourth investigator to work on the case, which is mostly handled by the Winnipeg RCMP detachment, 700 miles south of Thompson. https://www.cbc.ca/missingandmurdered/mmiw/profiles/melissa-ivy-chaboyer |
