Statistics Canada Data: Winnipeg = 32 Manitoba = 57 (includes Winnipeg)
For 2009, Statistics Canada reported 57 homicide victims for the province of Manitoba with 32 of those homicides occurring in Winnipeg. In the Winnipeg table below I have identified 30 Cases (4 Unsolved). In the Manitoba table I've identified xx (in progress). Some of the unsolved and disappearance cases may have been resolved but not reported to media. | 2009.04.01 | DANIELS, Nicole (16) | UNRESOLVED - Nicole Daniels, 16, was found face down in the snow on April 1, 2009, behind a rental car agency on the east side of Winnipeg. The autopsy report said she died of hypothermia, had a large amount of alcohol in her system and had eight cuts and bruises to her face, arms and inner thigh. Winnipeg police initially deemed her case suspicious, but eventually ruled out foul play. | 2009.05.25 | HOULE, Cherisse Diane Marie (17) | UNSOLVED - Cherisse Diane Marie Houle, 17, had plans to change her lifestyle to raise her 18-month-old son in a healthy environment. She was reported missing on May 25, 2009. Her body was found by a construction crew working near Sturgeon Creek in Rodder, Man., on July 1, 2009. UNSOLVED - As a teenager, Wilson had plans to become a stylist or beautician, and was hoping to move home to Norway House. She was barely 18 when her body was discovered on Aug. 20, 2009, on a dirt path on the outskirts of Winnipeg. East St. Paul RCMP believe Wilson was killed, although they have never publicly released how she died. Project Devote, -- a joint task force between the RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service to investigate unsolved homicides and missing persons cases involving exploited or at-risk people is investigating Wilson's case.
